3.4 million people die from water-born diseases every year. Most of them die without ever hearing the good news of Jesus.
Together we can change these statistics! Join me in a Read-a-Thon to raise money to dig a Jesus Well. The well will bring clean water to a community in need. This will bring health, as well as the opportunity for education. (Women and children often spend most their days simply walking miles to and from the nearest water source to provide for their families. With a well dug in the village, they can now use that time for education and productive activities.) Since a Jesus Well is drilled deep into the ground, it is less likely to dry up during the hot summers in Asia. But most importantly, through the provision of clean water, villagers are open to hearing about the God who loves them and provides for their needs. When they see that someone has loved them enough to provide the well, they want to know who this someone is. His name is right there on the well: it's a Jesus Well, and the local pastor will be on hand to tell them more about the Living Water that Christ offers them -- a life-sustaining well that will never run dry!
You can do your Read-a-Thon at any time; just pick a week. Ask your family and friends to sponsor you for every page you read during that week. Keep a reading log to record how many pages you finish. Then contact your sponsors about your reading accomplishment.
Your sponsors can give you their donation in person or they can make a tax-deductible contribution directly at www.mygfa.org/wordsforwells. That way, you don't have to handle the money and they get a tax break. (If you collect money from your sponsors, then your parents can transfer it to this website themselves. Please DON'T send any money to me!) Your sponsor can write in the comment section, telling us which reader the donation is in honor of. That way, you can keep track of how much you personally have helped raise for this cause, and it will be easy for you to track which of your sponsors might need a gentle reminder to send in their donation.

Jesus Wells increase the health standards of a village, allowing for children to be nourished and animals to be watered. The wells you provide are located in the village or community, so women and children no longer have to walk hours to find water.
With one well you can save an entire village from waterborne illnesses.
Unlike the dirty water from stagnant ponds, streams or old shallow wells, this water is clean and creates an awareness of good hygiene, leading to fewer medical problems and healthier people.
