:: I captured the above photo in July 2013 on a mission trip to India in a remote village near Masters College of Theology/Masters School for Children Vision Nationals campus in the southeast coastal city of Visakhapatnam. ::
Every morning, the first thing I do when I wake up is wash my face. I drink a glass of water and brush my teeth. At work, I have a cup of tea, and stay hydrated with water throughout the day. In the evening, I also bathe and cook with fresh, clean water.
We rely on the clean water that we expect to come out of the faucet every time we turn it on. We have constant access to unlimited clean water just about wherever and whenever we need it.
But what if we had little access to clean water sources, or maybe none at all? Can we imagine what it would be like to walk several miles from home every day for this basic necessity which is crucial for personal hygiene, sanitation, hydration, health and wellness, and sustenance?
This is the reality for millions of people in India who suffer, and even die, from waterborne diseases such as malaria, cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid simply because they have no access to clean water sources. The UN reported that India’s water quality is poor - it ranks 120th among the 122 nations in terms of quality of water available to its citizens.
But we can help! My hope for this upcoming holiday season campaign is to provide a village in India with a 'Jesus Well' that provides clean water for a whole community. The well not only provides families with physical refreshment and other necessary activities like cleaning and cooking, but also points them to the true source of Living Water- Jesus Christ.
Read below to learn about where donations go.
Jesus Wells increase the health standards of a village, allowing for children to be nourished and animals to be watered. The wells you provide are located in the village or community, so women and children no longer have to walk hours to find water.
With one well you can save an entire village from waterborne illnesses.
Unlike the dirty water from stagnant ponds, streams or old shallow wells, this water is clean and creates an awareness of good hygiene, leading to fewer medical problems and healthier people.
